The Next Paradigm in Personalized Oncology
GenomeDx and partners are making personalized medicine a reality.
Using genomic technologies (a genome is comprised of all the genetic material in a person or organism)
we are scanning millions of genetic markers in thousands of patient tissue samples at low cost. For our personalized
oncology products this development process starts with genome scanning and analysis of tumor samples that
have been archived from patients that have already undergone treatment and whose outcome is well characterized.
Genomic scans are correlated using powerful
computational algorithms so it is possible to interpret genomic information in the context of specific disease
conditions and better guide treatment for prospective patients on an individual basis.
With methods that combine medical laboratory technology with sophisticated computer algorithms and Web 2.0 IT platforms,
GenomeDx is assembling disease signatures for many types of cancer and associated benign conditions that will provide
health care providers the information to develop better treatment
strategies for their patients.
As opposed to new technologies that can often increase costs to the health system, GenomeDx technology is destined to
save the system money by taking advantage of the efficiency of providing the patient only what they need based on their
genomic profile as opposed to either over-treatment or inaccurate treatment when patients are treated by a "one-size-fits all" approach.
Unique Development Model
Over 10 years of effort with approximately $20 million in grant funding, have enabled the development of both
the biology and information technology platforms that form the basis of GenomeDx’s intellectual assets.
The most significant barrier to entry in the development of personalized medicine tests is obtaining large numbers
of high-quality patient samples with detailed medical information. GenomeDx has been successful in gaining access
to such valuable resources through the delivery of high value genomic data and sophisticated on-demand bioinformatics analysis.
The company intends to launch products as laboratory-developed tests in a
CLIA-certified laboratory run by company founders at the USC. These medical tests will be used, like the industry leading Oncotype
Dx to deliver clear, concise, clinically relevant treatment decision information.
Collaborations with Leading Institutions
GenomeDx and its collaborators have assembled of high quality cancer samples linked with the medical
information on each patient required for sophisticated informatics analyses. In most cases,
we are working directly with the first-adopters of this technology, expert cancer care
providers who are working on innovating better treatment strategies for their patients.
Our technology platform also provides us with an edge in acquiring
rare samples as our genomic analyses require
only nanograms amounts of patient material. GenomeDx has developed methods to process
archival tissues suitable for high-resolution whole-genome analysis. This allows us to streamline diagnostics product development as we perform
our genome scans with very small amounts of "real-world" patient specimens from the initial discovery phase through delivery into the clinic.
Product Pipeline
The company is currently collaborating with the several leading international comprehensive cancer centers and academic medicine research institutes to further develop, validate, and protect the genomic signatures that have been discovered for targeted cancers. Our current product development pipeline includes major cancers and associated benign conditions such as bladder, breast, colon, pancreatic, prostate, and thyroid cancer. We intend to rapidly expand our pipeline to support the treatment and management of all major cancers.
